Melted Wings Winery, a family-run project with roots on the Greek island of Ikaria, has quietly slipped into Old Brooklyn with a new tasting room and plans for limited public hours in early June. The intimate space seats roughly 30 to 35 people inside and adds a covered, ADA-accessible patio that can fit another 20 to 25 guests, turning a corner of Broadview Road into a low-key wine hangout.
According to Cleveland.com, co-owners include Nico Papafil, Nick Tripodis, Chris Tripodis, Stamati Tripodis and Steve Roditis, who bought the Broadview Road building in winter 2019 and have been slowly shaping it into their version of a neighborhood cellar. The team plans to start with limited opening days on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in early June. Papafil told the outlet, "We wanted a place that felt like a cellar," a hint that the focus here is more on what is in the bottle than flashy décor.
What they're pouring
The lineup covers plenty of ground: chardonnay, semi-dry riesling, sauvignon blanc, sparkling rosé, tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon and merlot, plus an Ikaros "melt" wine slushy built for hot-weather sipping. Bottles and by-the-glass pours are set to be available both in the tasting room and through the winery's online store, according to Melted Wings Winery.
Greek roots, local fruit
The founders say their winemaking education started with older relatives on Ikaria, and the goal now is to marry that heritage with American-grown fruit. As reported by Cleveland.com, the small-production operation turns out roughly 2,500 to 3,000 bottles a year and sources grapes from California and New York's Finger Lakes region. The outlet also notes that a Montepulciano made with Sonoma Valley fruit is expected to debut later this summer. Papafil summed it up for the paper: "What we're making isn't necessarily Greek wine — it's wine made by Greeks."
Hours, the space and what to expect
The tasting room sits at 4861 Broadview Rd., with the main level still under construction as the owners gradually ramp up public hours. Melted Wings Winery currently lists Thursday through Saturday as opening days and notes that orders for shipping and in-person pickup are handled through its online store.
The crew has already been getting its name out around town. The City of Fairview Park listed Melted Wings as a participating winery at a February tasting, a sign the label has been circulating beyond Old Brooklyn for a while now. Expect a soft opening in early June, with bottle releases and seasonal pours rolling out through the summer for anyone curious about a little Ikaria flavor on Broadview Road.
