A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday night on a busy stretch of Westheimer Road in west Houston, according to the Houston Police Department. The crash happened around 8:45 p.m. in the 12700 block of Westheimer Road, and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a 24-year-old woman driving a car involved in the crash was not injured. An unidentified man was later questioned by officers and released. Investigators say the case remains active and open.

According to the official HPD report, a blue Hyundai Sonata was traveling westbound on Westheimer when it struck a pedestrian who was walking in a moving lane of traffic at that location. The victim, described as a male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD listed the incident under case number Inc. #054007026-Y and reiterated that the 24-year-old female driver was not hurt. The unidentified male who was questioned was released after speaking with investigators.

Westheimer's Deadly Stretch

This latest crash adds to a grim record on a corridor already known as especially dangerous for people on foot. A Houston Chronicle report found that from 2021 to 2023, 19 pedestrians were killed along Westheimer. A separate Washington Post analysis counted 36 pedestrian deaths on a 3.5-mile stretch of the road between 2010 and 2023.

Investigation And How To Help

HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division, which lists Sgt. M. Sudduth and Officer L. Nguyen on the case in the department’s release, is leading the investigation. Officials describe the probe as ongoing, according to the Houston Police Department.

Investigators are reviewing video and other evidence from the scene to piece together the full circumstances of the collision. Anyone who has dash-cam footage, surveillance video, or additional information related to the crash is asked to contact the HPD Office of Community Affairs at 713-308-3200.
