Milford’s big Memorial Day parade set for Monday, May 25, 2026, is off. The Milford Police Department announced that the downtown procession is canceled, and organizers will now hold a brief indoor ceremony at the town’s Italian Vets hall instead.
Police Shift Crowd From Main Street To Italian Vets Hall
In a post from the Milford Police Department, officials confirmed that the parade is canceled and that a shortened indoor observance will take place at the Italian Vets hall instead of on the streets downtown. The department also asked residents to keep an eye on official channels for any last minute timing or logistical updates. The notice went up on the morning of May 25.
Rainy Forecast Soaks Parade Plans Across The Region
A soggy setup across southern New England pushed multiple communities to scrap or relocate their Memorial Day events. The National Weather Service called for showers and an 80 percent chance of precipitation for parts of the holiday. NBC New York reported that several nearby communities also pulled the plug on outdoor parades because of the wet forecast.
Milford Keeps Memorial Traditions Going Indoors
Milford’s Memorial Day observances are coordinated with local veterans organizations, including the American Legion, Italian‑American War Veterans and the VFW, according to the town’s parades information. Town of Milford guidance notes that indoor backup sites are typically used when bad weather forces changes to the schedule.
The work to honor local service members was already well underway before the forecast turned. Volunteers placed hundreds of flags at Riverside Cemetery ahead of the holiday, recognizing about 700 veterans buried there, according to The Cabinet Press. Residents planning to attend the indoor ceremony are encouraged to check the Milford Police Department’s Facebook post for the latest details.
