Rowlett’s century-old "blue house" on Main Street just landed a new life as a tacos-and-tequila hangout. Ollie’s Azul House, a concept from longtime locals Michael Gallops and Chris Kizziar, opened last Friday inside the historic Oliver House at 3410 Main Street, promising an easygoing taco lineup, a serious tequila collection, and neighborhood-friendly prices.
According to Ollie's Azul House, the spot marked its grand opening last Friday and bills itself as "A DFW Destination for Elevated Tacos & Curated Tequila." The website lists the restaurant's phone number and invites locals to plug into updates through its Facebook page.
As reported by CultureMap Dallas, the menu keeps things tight and focused with a short roster of tacos - Oliver, Miller, carnitas, elote chicken, and mushroom - available on soft corn, hard corn, or flour tortillas. CultureMap notes that the bar is stocked with roughly 100 tequilas, with tequila flights and cocktails in the works that are meant to be as educational as they are sippable. The outlet also reports that breakfast tacos are served from a back window each morning and that the team is aiming for "a couple tacos and a drink for less than $25."
A house with history
The Oliver House, affectionately known around town as the "blue house," has been a downtown fixture for decades and, in recent years, has been adapted for restaurant use. TexasIsLife reported that Brick & Bones Backyard opened at 3410 Main Street in July 2024, while local listings such as MapQuest now show the Rowlett outpost as closed. That turnover cleared the way for Ollie's to move in while leaving much of the home's old-school charm in place.
Who's behind it
The new concept is helmed by Rowlett residents with deep local ties. Michael Gallops previously served six years on the Rowlett City Council and is listed as President & CEO of the Metrocrest Chamber on local organizational sites such as district pages. Chris Kizziar leads the hunger-relief nonprofit Life Message, which lists him as president in its filings on CauseIQ. The partners told CultureMap they wanted to give back to the neighborhood and keep the experience accessible on the wallet.
Neighborhood notes
Gallops told CultureMap Dallas that he and his partners wanted to "give back and do something fun," and the space leans into that hometown vibe. The blue house holds onto its character, with walls lined with photos of Rowlett's founding families and other historic local images. The team is aiming for a downtown gathering spot that can walk diners through tequila basics while still keeping most menu items budget-conscious.
Ollie's Azul House is now open at 3410 Main Street, and the restaurant's website lists a phone number and notes that it is hiring for opening shifts. For hours, menus, and event updates, see Ollie's Azul House.
