
Salisbury police say they arrested Marcellus Anquan Steele on a Tuesday in connection with a 2024 shooting that left Shaleek Jaqwon Willams dead. According to investigators, Steele was taken into custody on May 11 and faces felony counts alleging he fired a weapon into an occupied property and discharged a firearm within an enclosed space to incite fear. Police say the gunfire broke out around 9 p.m. on April 13, 2024, at 709 W. Kerr Street near Jersey City Park.
In a Facebook post, the Salisbury Police Department said detectives conducted a lengthy investigation that led to Steele’s arrest. The post identified the arrested man as Marcellus Anquan Steele (DOB Jan. 29, 2002) and the victim as Shaleek Jaqwon Willams (DOB Feb. 3, 1998). The department said the case remains active as officers work to identify other people they believe were involved who could face additional charges.
Investigation and charges
Police charged Steele with felony discharging a firearm into occupied property or a vehicle and with felony discharging a firearm within an enclosure to incite fear, according to the same Facebook post from the Salisbury Police Department. The department wrote that "the investigation is ongoing to identify other involved parties that could lead to additional charges" and named Sgt. R. J. Hill as the lead investigator, who can be reached at (704) 638-5333. Officials described the arrest as the product of coordinated detective work that built on evidence gathered over the course of the long-running probe.
