Yesterday's street fight in East San Jose ended with multiple guns off the street and three people in custody, after officers say they found hidden firearms during two separate enforcement stops.
San Jose police said two adult men were booked into jail and a juvenile was taken to juvenile hall following the stops. According to the department, one person tried to bolt from officers, only to be caught with what police described as a stolen rifle tucked into his waistband. The department later posted photos of the seized weapons to its social channels.
Police say stops followed a street fight
According to the San José Police Department, members of the department’s Violent Crimes Enforcement Team made a pedestrian stop tied to a reported fight in the 1100 block of Story Road. During that encounter, officers said a male suspect tried to run away on foot but was quickly apprehended. Police reported finding a concealed, stolen rifle in his waistband.
The post noted that special operations units then combed the area and recovered additional firearms that had been hidden nearby. Two adult males were booked into jail in connection with the incident, according to the department.
Stops fit a recent pattern of finds
Hoodline has documented a run of similar cases where fairly routine stops ended with officers pulling guns and drugs off the streets, including Tuesday's traffic stop that turned up two loaded handguns and narcotics. Taken together, those incidents reflect the department’s current push to seize illegal firearms before they are used.
Juvenile booked after separate vehicle stop
In a separate incident, the department said a vehicle enforcement stop near King Road and Virginia Avenue led officers to a juvenile carrying a concealed firearm. That youth was booked into juvenile hall, the San José Police Department post said.
SJPD reported that its MERGE officers handled the contact and that some of the firearms recovered in the two stops had been hidden before officers arrived.
What the law allows and potential charges
Under California law, carrying a concealed firearm or carrying a loaded firearm in public or in a vehicle can be charged under Penal Code sections §25400 and §25850. Prosecutors can file those counts as misdemeanors or felonies, depending on the circumstances. Minors arrested with weapons typically move through juvenile court, where the rules and potential outcomes differ from adult criminal court.
In its post, the department said it will continue to prioritize community safety one enforcement stop at a time as officers carry out proactive enforcement. Police did not immediately release names or charging details and said the investigations remain active.
