Anya, a small puppy who was shot and left with paralyzed hind legs, is now under the care of a Triangle rescue and being prepared for adoption. Volunteers describe her as gentle and tough as nails, working hard to figure out life on two working legs instead of four. Rescue staff say she is responding to treatment while medical and foster teams coordinate to find her a permanent home.
According to CBS17, Duplin County deputies were called to an address on Quinn Estates Loop Drive in Pink Hill last Tuesday after a neighbor reported that a dog had been shot. The dog, later named Anya, was surrendered to the county shelter. The report notes that Anya is about six to seven months old and that her owner gave her up after the shooting while officials documented the incident.
Triangle rescue steps in
Anya is now with Perfectly Imperfect Pups, a Raleigh-area nonprofit that focuses on dogs with special or medical needs, and the group is overseeing her veterinary treatment and foster placement. The rescue operates on a foster-based model and shares adoption, fostering and donation details on its website. Volunteers with the organization say they frequently shoulder large medical expenses for urgent cases while they search for the best long-term home.
Medical update
X-rays reviewed by the rescue show two fragments on Anya’s spine and a suspected bullet or fragment, and veterinarians have determined that her back legs are paralyzed, according to CBS17. Caregivers say Anya currently drags herself around her foster home and is adjusting to her condition while staff explore rehabilitation and mobility options. The rescue has said that a mobility cart will go with Anya when she is adopted so her new family has the equipment she needs from day one.
How to help or adopt
Perfectly Imperfect Pups is taking inquiries from potential adopters, fosters and donors to support Anya’s care and long-term needs. The rescue also lists organizational information and adoptable dogs on its Petfinder page. Anyone interested in Anya or in contributing to her medical fund can reach the group through the email and forms available on the rescue’s website.
