A teenager is recovering in the hospital after being shot multiple times outside a dispensary on Long Point Road in northwest Houston late Monday, according to police. The teen was conscious when medics rushed him from the scene, while investigators stayed behind for hours combing through security footage from both inside and outside the shop.
What police say
Houston police say the gunfire erupted outside the Green House dispensary as a teenage customer was leaving and an employee opened fire. Officers recovered a single gun at the scene, which investigators believe belonged to that employee, and collected surveillance video and other evidence as they work to piece together the moments leading up to the shooting, according to Click2Houston.
“We’ve seen a lot of video and it’s pretty clear what happened in the videos,” an officer at the scene told reporters. The employee’s father told KPRC that his son called him after the incident and said the teen had been stealing from the store, and that his son fired three shots, striking the teen once in the back, Click2Houston reported. As of Tuesday morning, police had not announced any charges while the Major Assaults Division prepared the case for review by the Harris County district attorney’s office.
Pattern of violence at local dispensaries
The case is landing in a neighborhood already on edge about safety at cannabis businesses. In February, a deadly attack at Daze Elevated, where a co-owner was killed during an alleged attempted robbery, raised fresh alarms over security protocols at local dispensaries, according to Fox 26 Houston.
How to help
Investigators are asking anyone who saw the shooting or has information about what led up to it to come forward. Tips can be shared directly with Houston police or submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477). The organization also accepts tips online at Crime Stoppers, which Houston authorities frequently rely on during open investigations.
