A multi-agency search for a woman wanted in a Texas kidnapping ended yesterday in Atoka, Oklahoma, when officers carried out a felony traffic stop and safely recovered the child riding with her. Authorities said the child was not hurt and was looked after by troopers and emergency dispatchers until family members arrived. Officials described the arrest as the result of close coordination between local deputies and state troopers.
Investigators identified the suspect as Lexus Boyd, who was detained during a felony traffic stop near U.S. 69 and West 13th Street in Atoka. According to KTEN, an Atoka County deputy conducted the stop and took Boyd into custody at the scene. The outlet reports that officers recovered the child and that Boyd was booked into the Atoka County Jail on kidnapping allegations.
How officers tracked the vehicle
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said troopers joined the hunt after tips about Boyd's possible location pulled the investigation into southeastern Oklahoma. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the U.S. Marshals Service relayed information that Boyd might be in the Bryan County area as officers followed the vehicle along U.S. 69. Local deputies then staged the felony traffic stop that ended with her arrest.
Victim recovered and cared for
Sheriff Kody Simpson told KTEN that "the young girl involved was found safe and was cared for by troopers and dispatchers until family members arrived." The station reports that Boyd is the non-custodial mother of a five-year-old child. Authorities have not released additional information about what led to the kidnapping alert.
Charges and next steps
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirmed that Boyd was arrested on kidnapping charges and booked into the Atoka County Jail, according to the agency's account. Prosecutors in Texas and local authorities in Oklahoma will decide whether the case will proceed in Texas or if extradition will be requested, and officials had not yet released court dates or charging documents at the time of the report. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact their local law enforcement agency.
The arrest, which unfolded on Friday, highlights how agencies in different states can move quickly on time-sensitive child recovery cases. Local officials said they plan to release more details as the case moves through the court system.
