Next Thursday, the Great Lakes Science Center is turning its lakefront docks into a portal to 1912, as it opens a traveling installation of TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition that brings more than 200 authentic objects, life-size room reconstructions, a U.S.-premiere VR tour and a dome-format immersive film to Cleveland. The exhibition runs through January 18, 2027, pairing recovered artifacts with new digital experiences that put local visitors unusually close to the so-called Ship of Dreams.
What you'll see
More than 200 real objects recovered from the wrecksite anchor the show, laid out in galleries that sit alongside life-size recreations of some of Titanic's most famous rooms and an audio guide experience. "This carefully curated set of real artifacts tells the story of Titanic from her construction, the human stories of her passengers and crew, and the trauma of her sinking and decades under the ocean," Tomasina Ray said in a press release via Great Lakes Science Center. The installation is produced by E/M Group together with RMS Titanic, Inc., the recognized steward and salvor-in-possession of the wrecksite.
VR and dome premieres
The Cleveland stop will double as the U.S. launch site for an ambitious Titanic VR experience produced in collaboration with the historical reconstruction project Titanic: Honor & Glory, giving visitors a 360-degree tour that stretches from the grand staircase all the way down to the boiler rooms. Cleveland 19 reports the VR is debuting in five U.S. cities, and Cleveland is among the first to host it, and the Science Center will also screen Voices of the Titanic, an audio-driven immersive film projected in the Cleveland Clinic DOME Theater that the venue says is a first for dome presentation. Those digital elements are designed to layer historical context on top of the physical artifacts and to simulate how life aboard the ship would have looked in 1912, according to Cleveland 19.
Tickets and visit info
Exhibition-only tickets start at $20 for adults and $15 for youth, with discounts available for members and combo deals that link the Titanic display with general admission. For visitors who want the full treatment, the White Star Package bundles the exhibition, audio guide, Titanic VR, and Voices of the Titanic for a single price. The Science Center's ticket portal lists the White Star Package at $54.95 for adults and shows the exhibition runs May 21, 2026, through January 18, 2027; purchased tickets can be used for any date the museum is open during that run. No separate date-or-time reservation is required for exhibition admission, though VR and dome slots may be scheduled at purchase, per the Science Center's ticket page at Great Lakes Science Center. The museum is located at 601 Erieside Ave., Cleveland, OH 44114.
A Cleveland connection
Organizers say the Cleveland engagement will spotlight stories of passengers with Ohio ties, giving the touring exhibition a local twist alongside the global history of the disaster. Cleveland 13 News notes the Science Center is hosting the artifact collection as part of its 30th-anniversary season, and local reporting has pointed to earlier Cleveland links to the tragedy, including artist Francis Davis Millet, who died on the Titanic and left murals that still hang in downtown Cleveland. Those human-scale details help bridge the distance between the North Atlantic wrecksite and the Lake Erie shoreline.
Legal and ethical notes
The exhibition is presented by E/M Group and RMS Titanic, Inc. RMST has been recognized in U.S. court as the salvor-in-possession of the wrecksite, and its predecessors have recovered thousands of objects from the debris field. National Geographic reported that roughly 5,500 artifacts have been recovered over decades of expeditions, and NOAA guidance on the Titanic describes the wreck as a maritime memorial, with policies that favor in-situ preservation and careful stewardship. That legal and ethical backdrop has long shaped debate over recovery and display, even as institutions work to present artifacts respectfully and with educational framing. The Science Center is presenting the Cleveland run as both a memorial and a learning experience.
Whether you show up to study plates and pocket watches or to try the new VR tour, the Cleveland engagement of TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition offers multiple ways to engage with the ship's story. The show opens next Thursday and runs through January 18, 2027, at the Great Lakes Science Center.
