A 16-year-old is fighting for life after being shot Sunday night in West Philadelphia, turning a normally quiet residential corner into an active crime scene.
The gunfire rang out just before 10 p.m. near the intersection of Master and Allison streets, where police quickly taped off the block and rushed the teen to a hospital. He is listed in critical condition.
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, reporter Brian Sheehan was at the scene Sunday night, but few other details were immediately available. Investigators told the station the case is in its early stages as they work to sort out what led to the shooting. Police did not release any information about possible suspects in the initial report.
Police ask for tips
The Philadelphia Police Department is urging anyone who might know something to call 215-686-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online. The department’s submit-a-tip page notes that anonymous tips are accepted and reminds residents to call 911 to report any crime in progress, per the Philadelphia Police Department.
Resources for survivors
The city maintains a public “Shooting Victims” dataset on OpenDataPhilly that tracks incidents across Philadelphia and helps put individual shootings in a wider context.
Community organizations that work with victims and families, such as Resolve Philly, list counseling and support services for those affected by gun violence.
Investigation underway
Police have not released suspect descriptions or a possible motive, and the scene remained active as detectives canvassed the area, according to NBC10 Philadelphia. Officers are asking neighbors to share any video, photos or information that might help them piece together what happened.
Anyone with tips or footage is asked to contact the PPD tip line. Authorities say more details will be released as the investigation moves forward. This is a developing story, and updates are expected as officials provide more information.
