Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips is set to open a Lakewood shop this July in the former Joe's Deli space at the corner of West 117th and Madison. The new location will be mostly carry-out with a handful of tables, extending the small but persistent revival of the brand around Northeast Ohio.
As reported by Cleveland Scene, the Lakewood outpost is slated to move into the longtime deli site and aims for a July 2026 opening. The piece says franchisee George Simon purchased the building earlier this year and will run the location primarily as a to-go operation.
Regional revival
The Lakewood announcement is the latest step in a regional comeback. As The 216 Scoop notes, Simon and a team of investors have been buying and reopening Arthur Treacher’s sites, preserving the small cluster of stand-alone Treacher’s that survive in Northeast Ohio.
Menu and service
Patrons should expect the classic Treacher’s menu: crispy pie-shaped fish fillets, breaded shrimp, fried clams, fried chicken strips, hush puppies, and thick, ridged chips, prepared to original recipes and seasonings, according to Cleveland Scene. The article says the Lakewood spot will keep seating limited and concentrate on quick carry-out orders, with Simon adding that after this opening, the group will be "looking for our next location."
What this means for Madison Avenue
For Lakewood residents, the new Treacher’s adds another casual take-out option on a busy stretch of Madison Avenue and taps into local nostalgia for a once-ubiquitous fast-food icon. The chain once had hundreds of outlets nationwide, but now survives largely in this region, a history detailed by Wikipedia, which explains why each new opening gets noticed locally.
