Atlanta music legend Peabo Bryson, 75, is in a metro Atlanta hospital after suffering a stroke on Thursday, his representatives have confirmed. His family is asking for privacy while he receives care, even as fans and the local music community flood social media and group chats with well wishes and hopeful messages.
Rep Confirms Health Scare
A representative for Bryson confirmed that the singer suffered a stroke on Thursday and is currently receiving inpatient treatment, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The spokesperson added that “at this time, the family requests privacy as they navigate this deeply personal moment together,” per CBS News Atlanta. No additional clinical details about his condition have been shared publicly.
How To Spot A Stroke Fast
Doctors say that when it comes to stroke, every minute matters. They urge people to remember the BE FAST checklist: balance, eyes, face, arm, speech and time. Dr. Patricia Kelly Marsh of Morehouse School of Medicine told WSB-TV, “B stands for balance ... and T is for time to call 911,” stressing that people should contact emergency services immediately rather than trying to drive to a hospital themselves.
The American Heart Association notes that BE FAST goes beyond the older FAST acronym by capturing vision problems and balance issues that strokes can cause, and that early treatment significantly reduces the risk of long-term disability.
Five Decades In Atlanta And A Recent Show
Bryson has called the Atlanta area home for more than 50 years and has stayed active on local stages. He most recently appeared in a May 2 co-headlining show in Fayetteville with Jeffrey Osborne, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. In 2019, he experienced what was described as a mild heart attack that required hospitalization at WellStar Kennestone in Marietta.
Local venues and promoters say they are honoring the family’s request for privacy and are waiting, along with fans, for any official word on his recovery.
Community Waits For Word On Recovery
No further details about Bryson’s current condition have been released, according to CBS News Atlanta, and his family is continuing to ask for privacy as he recovers.
Medical experts continue to stress that anyone who notices sudden BE FAST symptoms should call 911 immediately, since early evaluation can open the door to critical treatments, the American Heart Association says. Updates about Bryson’s condition are expected to come from his representatives or his medical team.
