Atlanta is waking up hot, sticky, and already halfway to summer swelter this Thursday morning (June 11). Peachtree City and much of the metro are starting out around 75°F with dewpoints near 70°F, plus some patchy fog that should burn off shortly after sunrise. By midday, it will feel noticeably hotter, so commuters and anyone working outside may want to front-load those errands and jobs before the worst of the heat settles in.
Afternoon Heat And Humidity
By this afternoon, temperatures are expected to top out near 91°F with only a small chance of brief, isolated showers. Southwest winds will stay on the tame side, around 0 to 5 mph, which means the air will not feel any cooler. Heat and humidity will dominate the story through the afternoon, so bring water, take breaks in the shade, and consider shifting heavy labor or workouts to the cooler morning or evening hours.
Weekend And Next-Week Outlook
Friday looks even hotter, with highs near 93°F and heat index values pushing into the upper 90s. Forecast models point to a shift starting Sunday and continuing into early next week, with more organized showers and thunderstorms developing. Some of those storms could pack heavy downpours and trigger localized flooding in prone spots. "Heat indices rising into the upper 90s to low 100s are forecast today through the weekend," forecasters noted, according to the National Weather Service.
How To Stay Safe
Health officials urge residents to limit outdoor exertion during the peak heat of the afternoon, drink water frequently, and keep an eye on older adults and neighbors with medical conditions.
