Authorities say an East San Jose assault that sent a man to the hospital in April has now led to a tense standoff and an arrest. A 32-year-old San Jose man was taken into custody last Wednesday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment after police surrounded a home where he had barricaded himself. The victim in the April incident was treated at a local hospital for injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Arrest Followed April Assault
Police say the trouble started just before 11:30 AM on April 11 in the 4100 block of The Woods Drive, when an argument between two men turned violent and one man was allegedly struck several times. Detectives later secured arrest and search warrants, and last Wednesday, they moved in to serve them in the area of Alum Rock Avenue and Dale Drive.
According to investigators, the suspect refused to follow commands and holed up inside a residence. The department's special operations unit was called in and eventually convinced him to walk out. Officers say he was found with a firearm and was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment, as reported by The Mercury News.
Police Seek Other Victims
Detectives say they believe there may be additional victims connected to the case and are asking anyone with information to come forward. Tipsters can contact Detective Nguyen at 408-277-4161 or by email at [email protected], according to coverage by CBS Bay Area. Anonymous tips can also be sent through Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers.
Charges And What They Mean
The man was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon (Penal Code 245) and false imprisonment (Penal Code 236). Both offenses can be prosecuted as felonies under California law.
Assault with a deadly weapon can bring state prison time and fines. False imprisonment is treated as a felony when the restraint involves violence, menace or deceit. Prosecutors with the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office will review the police reports and evidence to decide whether to file formal charges.
What Comes Next
San Jose detectives say the investigation is still active, and they are leaving the door open to additional arrests or criminal filings as they sort through evidence. Anyone with tips, surveillance footage or other information tied to the April 11 assault is asked to contact the San Jose Police Department's Assaults Unit or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
