A confrontation inside a Binghampton apartment on Monday turned bloody when a resident was attacked and later treated for head wounds and scratches to her right forearm. According to police, a security guard told officers he spotted one of the women involved holding a pair of bloody brass knuckles, while the resident said she grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed both women to get them off her. Officers later executed a search and recovered a set of knuckles from a vehicle, and both suspects were taken to a hospital in non-critical condition, police said.
Arrests and Evidence
The Memphis Police Department arrested Candice Nash and Michaela Nash on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a prohibited weapon, according to WREG. Investigators said they served a search warrant on a Nissan Altima and recovered what appeared to be a pair of brass knuckles with blood on them. A security guard at the scene told officers he saw Michaela carrying the object shortly before police moved in.
What Tennessee Law Says
Tennessee Code Annotated § 39-17-1302 lists “knuckles” among prohibited weapons, and simple possession can be charged under that statute, according to the Tennessee Attorney General. Penalties for having a prohibited weapon depend on the device and the circumstances. Aggravated assault can bring significantly tougher exposure if prosecutors can show serious bodily injury or certain enhancements.
Victim Account and Court Date
The resident told investigators she stabbed both women with scissors to stop the assault and was treated for wounds to her head and for scratches on her right forearm, WREG reports. Both Candice and Michaela Nash were scheduled to appear in Shelby County court on Wednesday, according to the outlet. Police have asked anyone with information or video of the incident to contact investigators.
