Yesterday in downtown San José, gunfire turned a busy stretch of the entertainment district into a crime scene, leaving three people wounded and streets shut down for hours.
Officers responding to the area found three victims, each with at least one gunshot wound, and authorities said all were taken to local hospitals for treatment. A large section of the neighborhood, home to bars and late-night spots, was quickly wrapped in police tape as the investigation got underway.
According to San José Police Media Relations, "Units are currently investigating a shooting in the area of S 1st St and E Reed St." The post warned that traffic would be affected for an extended period while officers worked the scene and did not provide any information about a possible suspect.

Traffic was restricted in both directions on South First Street from Pierce Avenue to State Highway 280, and East Reed Street was blocked from South First to South Third as investigators processed the scene, according to NBC Bay Area. Police urged drivers in the afternoon to avoid the area while officers continued collecting evidence.
Downtown safety concerns
This latest shooting lands on top of several recent violent incidents in the city’s core, including a February double homicide on Paseo de San Antonio. That case, in which two men were gunned down, was detailed in a report on the two men gunned down on Paseo de San Antonio and included an appeal from police for witnesses to come forward.
What investigators are asking
Authorities have not released any suspect description or possible motive, and the investigation remains active. Police are asking anyone who was in the area or who might have video or information to contact the San José Police Department. The department’s website lists non-emergency phone numbers and options for submitting tips.
