A late-night drive on a rural stretch of Britton Road turned deadly yesterday when a 34-year-old Perry woman was killed after her vehicle left the roadway and slammed into a tree in Perry Township, authorities said.
Michigan State Police troopers pronounced the woman dead at the scene and have launched an investigation into the single-vehicle crash.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Flint Post were called to the 3600 block of Britton Road, where they found a 2025 Chrysler Pacifica that had left the road and struck a tree, according to a Michigan State Police news release obtained by MLive. Officials said the woman was the only person in the vehicle, and emergency crews remained on scene last night.
Crash Investigation Focuses On Speed
Investigators believe speed played a key role in the wreck. The woman was “traveling at a high rate of speed when she lost control,” according to the MSP statement, and the crash is still under investigation, per the news release reported by MLive.
Troopers have not yet released the victim’s name, citing the need to notify family members first.
Rural Roads, Fixed Objects And Fatal Crashes
Crashes like this are a grimly familiar pattern on Michigan’s rural roads. Single-vehicle collisions with fixed objects such as trees and utility poles are a common cause of fatal wrecks outside urban areas, and speed is often a significant contributing factor, according to Michigan State Police crash data. Statewide trends and detailed safety data are outlined in the Michigan State Police traffic report.
The MSP Flint Post is leading the investigation and has asked anyone with information about the crash to contact Shiawassee County dispatch as troopers work to piece together the woman’s final moments on Britton Road.
