A Saturday night disturbance in Milwaukie’s Lewelling neighborhood turned into a shooting investigation and manhunt after a man was grazed by a bullet, and police are now asking the public to help track down the suspect. Officers initially responded to the 9600 block of Southeast 43rd Avenue, then assisted Clackamas Fire on the 9700 block of Southeast Stanley Avenue, where the wounded man was treated for the graze wound and released at the scene. The suspect, described as a white man in his 40s wearing a black hat and a white shirt, had already left the area. Anyone with information is asked to call the Milwaukie tip line at 503-786-7425 or email [email protected].
On June 27 around 7:35 p.m., Milwaukie officers were called to reports of a disturbance in the 9600 block of Southeast 43rd Avenue and found evidence of gunfire, though no injuries were reported at that location, according to KATU. Police told KATU that the person who fired a handgun had left the scene before officers arrived, and the department has logged the investigation as case number 26-3585.
What police are asking
Investigators say the two scenes appear related and the probe remains active. The Milwaukie Police Department lists a tip line and department email for reporting information, per the City of Milwaukie, and residents with video or eyewitness accounts are urged to contact 503-786-7425 or [email protected]. Even short clips or brief witness statements can play a key role in identifying a suspect.
Police provided a physical description of the suspect as a white man in his 40s wearing a black hat and a white shirt, and said they had no description of his pants. Officers added that the person may be known to others involved, according to KATU. Detectives are canvassing the Lewelling area and reviewing available surveillance and door-cam footage as the investigation continues. No arrests have been reported.
Neighbors with door-cam or dash-cam video from the Lewelling area are particularly encouraged to share footage with investigators, and police ask anyone who saw the disturbance to call the tip line instead of confronting potential suspects. The Milwaukie Police Department and Clackamas Fire have not released further details and officials say they will update the public when more information becomes available.
