A Creve Coeur man is behind bars after police say he phoned a local daycare on June 11 and threatened to shoot two employees while roughly 100 children were inside, turning an ordinary day into a lockdown drill nobody wanted. Staff immediately secured the building while officers searched for the caller, who was later taken into custody, according to authorities.
Creve Coeur police identified the suspect as James B. M. Mosley, who is charged with first-degree making a terrorist threat, as reported by FOX 2. He is being held on a $200,000 cash-only bond and is scheduled to appear in St. Louis County Circuit Court on June 15, the outlet reports.
Daycare Locked Down While Officers Searched
Police said the daycare was “placed on lockdown as a precaution” while officers secured the building, and that about 100 children were inside when the threatening call came in, according to FOX 2. Officers later located and arrested Mosley in St. Louis County. No injuries were reported, and the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office filed the charge, according to court records.
What The Charge Means Under Missouri Law
Under Missouri law, first-degree making a terrorist threat involves communicating a threat or a false report with the purpose of frightening 10 or more people or causing an evacuation; the offense is classified as a Class D felony. The legal definition appears in Missouri Revisor of Statutes, while the sentencing range and related penalties for Class D felonies are outlined by the Missouri Revisor of Statutes.
Next Steps In The Case
Mosley is due in St. Louis County Circuit Court on June 15. Investigators say he has multiple prior arrests, a previous conviction for possession of a controlled substance, and a pending case in St. Charles County. Court filings and the upcoming hearing will determine whether prosecutors seek to keep him in custody without bond or move the case forward toward trial. Creve Coeur officials have not offered further public comment beyond the probable cause statement.
