Cordova police say a vehicle tied to a mid‑May armed robbery at the Food and Fuel is now back on their radar, after officers tracked it across state lines and linked it to an ongoing copper‑theft investigation.
Tracking and recovery
At a June 9 Cordova Town Council meeting, Police Chief Harold Cox told council members that investigators followed the suspect vehicle on Flock security cameras through Graysville and Birmingham before it was finally located in Kenner, Louisiana. Officers removed two cell phones and a ski mask from the car and said they identified the gun that had been inside. Cox said the vehicle will be brought back to Cordova for full processing.
Councilman Ed Earp added that residents along Hilltop Lane and Buttermilk Road have reported seeing out‑of‑county tags and are pushing for stepped‑up patrols, as reported by The Mountain Eagle.
The holdup
The robbery itself went down on May 8 around 5:45 p.m., when three men walked into the Food and Fuel on Horsecreek Boulevard and robbed the clerk at gunpoint. Police say the trio got away with nearly $1,000 in cash and a case of beer.
Cordova Public Safety released surveillance images from the store and asked anyone with information to contact the department, according to WBRC.
AT&T crews and a copper‑theft link
As detectives worked the case, Cordova police said they got an assist from AT&T crews, who were using a GPS tracker and a camera on a line in the area. While replacing lines near Gardner's Gin Road, crews found wire in tall grass and later reported that some of the stolen material had been moved by boat.
A person was later detained in an alleged copper‑theft incident at the kayak launch on Cane Creek near Gardner's Gin Road, and officers recovered a sizable amount of cable for AT&T, even as some remains missing, as reported by The Mountain Eagle.
What’s next
Cordova Public Safety says the investigation is still active and is asking anyone with tips to call Cordova Police at 205‑483‑7100, per WBRC.
Police have not confirmed that formal charges have been filed and say more information will be released as evidence from the vehicle and the copper‑theft probe is processed.
