Houston travelers racing to their gates now have one more reason to slow down for a minute: Common Bond, the hometown bakery and bistro that helped fuel the city's brunch obsession, has officially opened its first airport outpost at William P. Hobby Airport. The debut slips into the final stretch of Hobby's long-running dining overhaul, adding another local name to the remodeled concessions lineup.
According to the Houston Business Journal, the Hobby location began serving travelers on June 29, 2026, marking the brand's first-ever airport site. The opening is part of a phased concessions program that has been rolling new restaurants across the terminal for months.
Hobby's Concessions Push
Hobby's Phase 3 rollout is built around a mix of neighborhood favorites and big-name operators. Killen's Barbecue, SpindleTap Brewery and Yard House all land in the same wave, a strategy meant to balance faster grab-and-go spots with sit-down options, according to Houston Airports. Airport officials say the additions build on Phase 2 upgrades to the pre-security ticketing lobby and other recent improvements around the terminal.
What Common Bond Brings
Common Bond started as a single bakery in Montrose and has grown into a multi-location operation known for laminated croissants, jewel-box macarons and an all-day bistro menu, per Common Bond's website. In recent weeks, the brand has been rolling out new neighborhood Bistro & Bakery locations as it scales beyond its original flagship.
"These restaurants are not just exciting additions, they're strategic," Libby Hurley, Houston Airports' director of concessions, said of the Phase 3 openings, according to Houston Airports. The airport has emphasized local partnerships through LaTrelle's Management and has framed the refreshed concessions program as part of a broader effort to upgrade the overall passenger experience.
From Contracts To Counters
The concessions transition traces back to a 2023 agreement that the Houston Chronicle reported would generate roughly $334 million in projected sales over ten years and bring an influx of local concepts to Hobby. Public filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation show Common Bond's tenant build-out at HOU began July 7, 2025, and wrapped up October 27, 2025, for a roughly 3,472-square-foot space, according to TDLR.
What Travelers Will Find
Inside the airport counter, travelers can expect Common Bond's core hits - croissants, cookies and coffee - alongside quicker sandwich and bistro options tailored for pre-flight service, according to Common Bond's website. The space is designed to be compact and speed-focused, while still keeping the pastry case front and center for anyone who wants a last-minute macaron before boarding.
For HOU passengers, Common Bond's arrival is one more signal that the concessions overhaul is entering its home stretch and that the terminal refresh will continue to lean heavily on local brands. The Houston Chronicle has noted that additional restaurant rollouts are still queued up as the remaining phases move into the next year.
