Dallas woke today, to clear skies and roughly 79°F at Dallas Love Field, with the kind of muggy air that feels more like late afternoon than early morning. Dewpoints are hovering around 70°F, so the humidity will make it feel hotter than the thermometer suggests as temperatures climb quickly through the day.
Afternoon Heat And Gusty Winds
Highs are expected to reach the mid-90s Thursday, with Friday forecast near 97°F and the weekend pushing toward the upper 90s and low 100s. Sunday is forecast near 100°F and Monday could slide into the low 100s. South to south-southwest winds of 5-15 mph this afternoon will pick up at times, with gusts as high as 25-35 mph on some afternoons.
The National Weather Service office in Fort Worth notes that afternoon heat index values could reach or exceed 105°F at times into early next week as per NWS Fort Worth.
Overnight Relief Is Minimal
Nighttime lows will only fall into the upper 70s most nights, offering little real relief, especially in dense neighborhoods and apartments without strong air conditioning. That combination of hot, humid days and warm nights slows overnight recovery and can increase strain on vulnerable residents who are already trying to ride out the heat.
Where To Cool Off
The City of Dallas runs a "Beat the Heat" program that directs residents to cooling centers at community centers, libraries and select recreation facilities. Sites such as the West Dallas Multipurpose Center and the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center are among the locations commonly used as relief hubs. Check the city's Beat the Heat page for operating hours and updates before you head out according to City of Dallas.
For now, the playbook is simple: schedule outdoor work and recreation for early morning or late evening, carry water, and check on older neighbors and pets during the hottest part of the day. If you have to work outside, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces when possible and keep an eye out for signs of heat-related illness.
