Downtown Belmont is getting ready to swap regular traffic for revelers, as key streets close and parking tightens up ahead of the Red, White & Belmont concert and fireworks this Friday. Drivers and residents can expect rolling shutdowns on Main Street and nearby blocks, enforced no-parking zones, and specially routed exit lanes. City officials say some parking areas will be off-limits during the fireworks, so anyone planning drop-offs or pickups is urged to time things carefully.
The Red, White & Belmont celebration is set for this Friday as part of the Friday Night Live series, featuring a concert in Stowe Park and a fireworks show behind Main Street, according to Downtown Belmont. Organizers recommend using Stowe Park at 24 S Main St as the ride-share drop-off spot and encourage guests to bring chairs or blankets for the show.
Closures, timelines and parking rules
According to the City of Belmont’s government Facebook post, Airline Street will close at 12 p.m., and Myrtle Street will shut down at 4 p.m. so pedestrians can cross safely. Sections of Main Street will close in stages, with some blocks shutting at 4 p.m. and additional closures kicking in at 7 p.m. The post’s map directs drivers in the Glenway parking area east to Keener Blvd, routes those north of the railroad to Wilkinson Blvd and those south to Central Avenue, and notes that residential and handicapped access on Myrtle requires entering from Central Avenue. The advisory also flags multiple no-parking zones and states that vehicles on Mill Street will not be allowed to leave starting at 9:00 p.m., remaining in place until the fireworks are finished.
Police presence and safety tips
The Belmont Police Department has a standing operations plan for Friday Night Live events and will staff this concert with officers, barricades and medical standby, as outlined by the city in its event memo. The memo notes that "the police department always seeks to increase participant safety at City events" and lays out barricade placement, staffing details and procedures for crowd and traffic control, measures the city typically uses for downtown concerts and fireworks. Downtown Belmont also urges people to arrive early and to use Stowe Park for pickups to help cut down on congestion, according to Downtown Belmont.
