Duck N Bao's original Cypress restaurant has quietly closed after several years on Spring Cypress Road, with the location's online listing flipping to "permanently closed" once owners Grace and Leo Xia decided not to renew the lease on the storefront.
In a written note, the Xias called Cypress "where our story began" and said, "Saying goodbye to our original Duck N Bao is bittersweet," explaining that stepping away from the founding outpost will let them focus on other Houston projects and family plans, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The restaurant's official locations page now lists only the Rice Village and Memorial spots and no longer shows the Cypress address, signaling that the company has removed the original storefront from its active roster. The page also includes phone numbers and hours for the remaining restaurants, indicating Duck N Bao will keep serving Houston diners from inside the Loop and along the Memorial corridor, per the Duck N Bao website.
How the restaurant grew
The Xias launched Duck N Bao in Cypress during the pandemic, then expanded into Memorial and Rice Village, building a small local chain known for crispy Peking duck and handmade soup dumplings. The Rice Village outpost opened in 2024, and the brand's dishes have drawn attention across Houston's food scene, according to CultureMap Houston.

The now-closed Cypress storefront sat at 17333 Spring Cypress Road. With that space dark, diners can still find Duck N Bao at Rice Village (5215 Kelvin Dr.) and Memorial (5535 Memorial Dr.). Those addresses and operating hours are listed in local coverage of the openings, including Eater Houston.
The couple behind Duck N Bao also run other concepts, including Hongdae 33 and Seven Sushi & Robata, and told the Houston Chronicle that winding down the Cypress lease felt like the right next chapter for both their businesses and their family. For now, Duck N Bao's two Loop-area restaurants remain open, and the owners say they plan to lean into those locations while they map out what comes next.
