A routine attempt to fix a low tire turned deadly Wednesday when 25-year-old Javin Lavel Wynn of Dunn was struck and killed in a two-vehicle crash on Dorman Road just outside the city limits. Troopers and local emergency crews tried to save him with life-saving measures at the scene, but Wynn was pronounced dead, and the roadway stayed blocked for hours as investigators worked the crash.
As reported by The Daily Record, Wynn had stopped to retrieve an air compressor from the trunk of a Cadillac so he could inflate a partially deflated tire when he was hit. The outlet identified Wynn as a Dunn resident and noted that he died at the scene. Photos accompanying that report show a Dunn police officer comforting a child while crime-scene investigators and Dunn Emergency Services document the intersection.
Trooper Came Upon Crash, Started Life-Saving Efforts
A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper came across the wreck on Dorman Road between Arrowhead Road and Middle Road while on patrol and immediately began life-saving efforts, according to ABC11. When Dunn Emergency Services arrived, one person was pronounced dead at the scene and another driver was taken to Betsy Johnson Hospital for treatment. Others involved were checked out by EMS and released, and Dorman Road remained closed for more than two hours while crews worked.
Investigation And Possible Charges
Troopers told investigators they believe the driver who rear-ended the vehicle was impaired and that they will consult with the Harnett County district attorney's office about potential charges, The Daily Record reports. Authorities are still collecting evidence and have not yet filed any formal charges.
The State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation, and Dorman Road later reopened after crews cleared the scene, ABC11 reports. Local officials have not released additional details, and the investigation remains active.
