Dyersburg 'Corn Can' Bust Uncovers Meth Stash And CashSource: West Tennessee Drug Task Force - 28th,29th,30th

A can of corn in a Dyer County home turned out to be anything but dinner. A "stash can" disguised as a corn can was seized during a West Tennessee Drug Task Force search near Dyersburg, where agents say they uncovered methamphetamine, marijuana, and $3,471 in suspected drug proceeds. One man was arrested after investigators said the fake canned goods container was being used to hide narcotics inside the residence in the 6000 block of Highway 104 West.

According to WREG, agents from the 29th Judicial District Drug Task Force executed the warrant with help from the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office. The task force said officers seized a stash can made to look like a commercial can of corn, about 96 grams of methamphetamine, and roughly one ounce of marijuana. Investigators also reported recovering $3,471 in suspected drug proceeds and charged one man with possession of Schedule II and Schedule VI controlled substances with intent to sell, along with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pattern Of Local Raids

The corn bust is the latest in a steady string of drug interdictions in Dyer County and the wider Memphis region this spring. In April, an undercover operation in Dyersburg turned up more than two pounds of methamphetamine, according to Action News 5. Coverage of a June 1 search at Meadowlane Apartments detailed agents hauling off meth, pills, firearms and cash taken, underscoring how busy local task force teams have been in recent months.

Charges And Next Steps

The task force said prosecutors in the 29th Judicial District will review lab results and investigative files before finalizing formal charges in the corn can case. Task Force Director Johnie Carter, quoted in the release, did not entirely resist the setup for a joke, saying, "I almost feel like there could be a dealer, a can of corn and a 1/4 lb. of meth walk into a bar joke in here somewhere, but meth is no joke and the dealer is in jail," and the office of District Attorney General Danny Goodman Jr. will handle prosecution, per WREG.
