Sunday night traffic on Interstate 10 in East El Paso turned tragic when a motorcyclist was hit by a speeding driver who took off, leaving the rider critically injured on the highway. The motorcyclist was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died, and Special Traffic Investigators have now opened a fatal hit-and-run case.
What We Know
According to KTSM 9 News, which cited a police press release, the crash happened around 9:00 p.m. on June 28 near mile marker 29 by Yarbrough Drive on I-10 East. Investigators say 29-year-old Ricardo Dominguez was riding eastbound on a 2025 Kawasaki ZX400 when a light-colored vehicle, reportedly moving at a high rate of speed, changed lanes and hit him.
The striking vehicle did not stop and left the scene, police said. Dominguez was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and died the following day, June 29, while Special Traffic Investigators continued working the case.
Emergency crews temporarily shut down lanes on the interstate so first responders could treat Dominguez and investigators could document the scene.
Police Seek Witnesses
Detectives are banking on the public to help find the driver who took off. Anyone who saw the crash or has dash-cam or cellphone video from the area around the time of the collision is urged to contact the El Paso Police non-emergency line at 915-832-4400 or Crime Stoppers of El Paso at 915-566-8477.
The department repeated those numbers and the call for tips in its official El Paso Police Department press release as the Special Traffic Investigations Unit works through leads in the hit-and-run.
Why It Matters
Motorcyclists continue to carry a deadly share of the nation’s traffic toll. A national report from TRIP counted more than 6,000 motorcyclist deaths in 2024 and flagged speeding and unsafe lane changes as frequent factors. Crashes like this one on I-10 tend to highlight just how vulnerable riders are when other drivers behave recklessly and then disappear.
Local investigators say that in hit-and-run cases, quick tips and video evidence often make the difference between an unsolved file and an arrest. The Special Traffic Investigations Unit is keeping the case open as detectives work to identify the light-colored vehicle and the driver who left the scene. This story will be updated if police release additional details or announce an arrest.
