Somebody in Gatlinburg and somebody in Harrogate are walking around East Tennessee a whole lot richer and do not even know it yet. Over the weekend, two lottery tickets bought at local stores hit big: a Powerball Power Play ticket worth $100,000 in Gatlinburg and a Daily Tennessee Jackpot ticket worth $30,000 in Harrogate. Both wins were reported in Sevier and Claiborne counties, and officials say neither prize has been claimed so far.
Where luck struck in Gatlinburg and Harrogate
According to WVLT, the $100,000 Powerball Power Play ticket was purchased at Fastop Market, 1339 E. Parkway in Gatlinburg. The $30,000 Daily Tennessee Jackpot ticket was sold at Lee’s Food Mart on Cumberland Gap Parkway in Harrogate. WVLT reports that the Tennessee Lottery provided the prize amounts and the store locations.
How the games work, from jackpot to Quick Cash
Daily Tennessee Jackpot is a Tennessee-only drawing that runs nightly with a $30,000 starting jackpot and a $1 ticket price. Players can add Quick Cash for an extra $1 to get an instant-win chance, according to the Tennessee Lottery. With Quick Cash, five additional numbers print on the ticket and can pay immediate prizes, and the lottery lists the full odds and prize breakdown on its site. Powerball is a multi-state game, and the Power Play option increases most non-jackpot prizes when a player chooses it.
How winners can claim their money
The Tennessee Lottery explains that “Players who win prizes of $200,000 or more must claim their prize at the Nashville Headquarters & Claim Center.” Smaller drawing prizes can be claimed at district offices or by mail, and drawing-style prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the winning draw. Since the Gatlinburg and Harrogate prizes are $100,000 and $30,000, the winners can use the district-office or mail-in process once they come forward.
What happens once someone steps forward
Until a claim is filed, the lottery does not release any additional personal information about the winners, according to the station. After someone presents a winning ticket, the lottery verifies it and processes the payout under its standard rules, and retailers that sold winning tickets are typically notified. Anyone who thinks they might be holding one of these tickets is advised to sign the back immediately and follow the Tennessee Lottery’s instructions for claiming a prize.
