Prospect Five Points, the wine bar and restaurant tucked into Riverside's Five Points, is calling its last pour on June 28. Operators say a rough year behind the bar and the slower summer months ahead have left the business unable to stay open. The announcement gives neighborhood regulars a final stretch to grab a table on the patio and work through the menu before the doors close at the end of the month.
As reported by the Jax Daily Record, a June 9 Facebook post from the restaurant stated, "Business has been rough this last year, and we have done all we could to stay open." The post went on to say that "with the slow season coming, unfortunately, we are unable to do so" and urged diners to stop in before the June 28 closing date.
According to Prospect Five Points' website, the restaurant operates at 1521 Margaret Street and serves shareable plates, salads, flatbreads, entrees, desserts, wines, beers and cocktails. The site lists current hours and a contact number for reservations and private events, and it highlights an outdoor patio that has been a steady draw for neighborhood diners.
Opened During The Pandemic By Denver Transplants
Sheree Kentwell and Jon Choomchaiyo launched Prospect Five Points in the fall of 2020 after relocating from Denver, according to Flamingo Magazine. They told earlier interviewers they took inspiration from Brooklyn’s Prospect Park and overhauled the longtime corner space to create a wine-bar-with-small-plates concept. Over time, Prospect built a local reputation for approachable wine flights and a lively patio scene.
Another Shakeup For Five Points' Restaurant Scene
The Prospect closure lands amid broader changes in the Five Points dining lineup. Nearby Mossfire Grill, a neighborhood staple for nearly three decades, shut its doors last fall after a 27‑year run, the Jax Daily Record reported. Local restaurateurs and regulars say the area has seen turnover as operators contend with shifting foot traffic, rising costs and seasonal slowdowns.
In their announcement, Prospect’s owners thanked patrons and said they appreciate everyone who has shared in the Prospect experience. The post hinted that a going‑away celebration could be in the works but did not spell out long‑term plans for the corner space. For now, June 28 is circled as the last night to visit the neighborhood spot.
