
A man was shot Sunday night near Rodney Cook Sr. Park in northwest Atlanta, sending police to a Historic Vine City block where detectives stayed into the night, according to authorities.
Officers responded to 616 Joseph E. Boone Boulevard, where they collected evidence and interviewed possible witnesses. Police had not publicly released the victim’s condition as investigators continued their work at the scene.

The address corresponds with Rodney Cook Sr. Park, a 16-acre greenspace in Vine City that opened in 2021 and sits near Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the Westside BeltLine connector, according to the park’s information site. The park is part of broader redevelopment efforts on Atlanta’s west side and draws visitors to its playground, splash area and walking trails.

FOX 5 Atlanta reported an arrest in a May 18 homicide tied to the corridor. a mid-May shooting near Vine City that temporarily shut a stretch of Boone Boulevard underscored repeated safety concerns on the road.
