North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement wrapped up a multi-day crackdown in Henderson and across Vance County this week, serving seven search warrants and charging, or securing warrants for, more than 15 people on a combined total of over 170 counts. The operation zeroed in on ABC-permitted businesses and nearby homes, where agents say they found trafficking amounts of multiple drugs, firearms and thousands of dollars in cash. Henderson Police, the Vance County Sheriff’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation all joined in the effort.
Seizures and evidence
ALE special agents reported seizing more than half a pound of cocaine and crack, along with methamphetamine and fentanyl, plus MDMA, opioids and heroin. Investigators also recovered 10 firearms and $5,479 in cash. At several businesses, agents say they uncovered illegal gaming machines and collected another $35,677 tied to the alleged unlawful play. The agency said undercover buys were key to building the cases and that the operation is still active, with more charges on the table, as reported by WRAL.
ALE’s statewide role
Alcohol Law Enforcement serves as the enforcement arm of the state ABC Commission and is authorized to investigate ABC-licensed businesses and related criminal activity anywhere in North Carolina. The commission notes that ALE special agents can arrest and take enforcement action statewide and routinely partner with local police, sheriff’s offices and the State Bureau of Investigation. That broad authority provided the legal framework for coordinating the Henderson and Vance County operation.
Who faces charges
Officials say more than a dozen people have been arrested and that warrants remain active for several others, with criminal counts now topping 170. Court records and agency summaries list suspects facing trafficking, robbery and firearm-related charges. Investigators also report that three people were arrested on armed robbery allegations, including one 15-year-old. ALE said the series of searches took place June 17 and 18 after a months-long probe, and the investigation is still underway, as reported by WRAL.
Part of a wider enforcement push
The Henderson and Vance County action lands in the middle of a busy spring for coordinated drug enforcement across the state, with federal and local task forces logging large seizures and arrests in other regions. Earlier multi-agency raids in Vance County turned up significant amounts of drugs and firearms, and a federal "Operation Spring Cleaning" in the Charlotte area this month brought in dozens of arrests and hundreds of pounds of drugs. The pattern points to increased coordination among local, state and federal teams, according to reporting by WYFF.
What could happen to the businesses
Because several ABC-permitted establishments were searched, those businesses could now face separate administrative action from the North Carolina ABC Commission, including possible summary suspension of their permits while the cases are reviewed. The commission has used summary suspensions in past ALE-linked investigations as an immediate public safety step, with matters then sent to administrative hearings. Prosecutors say additional criminal charges may be filed as lab work is completed and cases are fully reviewed.
Authorities say the investigation remains active and that more charges are possible as detectives sort through the evidence. This story will be updated as court filings and new agency information become available.
