A section of Aetna Street in Fall River turned into an active crime scene Wednesday night, as police launched a homicide investigation and shut down the area to the public. Officers have kept the street restricted while detectives work, and officials have not yet released any information about possible victims, suspects or the timing of the incident.
Police statement and scene
In a post on their Facebook, Fall River police said the location "remains an active and ongoing scene" and urged people to stay away so investigators can do their jobs, according to Boston 25 News. The department has not shared any further details about who might have been involved or whether anyone is in custody.
Recent violent incidents in the city
This is one of several serious investigations Fall River police have handled this year. In February, a police shooting left one man dead and sent two officers to the hospital with injuries, as reported by WBUR. That same month, a separate double-stabbing on Walnut Street was reported by WCVB, adding to what has already been a busy public-safety year for local officials.
What residents should know
Police are asking anyone with information about the Aetna Street homicide investigation to contact the Fall River Police Department at (508) 676-8511, or call 911 in an emergency, according to the Fall River Police Department. Residents should be prepared for road closures and traffic delays around Aetna Street while detectives process the scene. Authorities say more information will be released as it becomes available.
