Atlanta is waking up to a soupy start this Sunday, with temperatures hovering near 75°F and humidity making it feel every bit as sticky as you feared. Skies stay mostly sunny and the city is expected to climb into the low 90s this afternoon, with the hottest stretch running from late morning into early evening. In many neighborhoods the heat will push "feels like" readings into the upper 90s, so anyone with outdoor plans will want to stick to the cooler morning or evening hours.
Heat Advisory and Forecast
A Heat Advisory is in effect for portions of east-central Georgia from noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Those areas could see heat index values near 105°F this afternoon. Metro Atlanta is forecast to top out around 93°F with humid "feels like" values in the upper 90s, while west winds of 5 to 10 mph may gust up to 25 mph late in the day. Isolated afternoon storms are possible well north of I-20, but for most of the metro the main concern is plain old heat, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.
Plan Your Day
Today is a day to treat hydration like a part-time job: drink plenty of water, skip heavy exertion during the midday peak from about 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and check in on older neighbors, children, and pets. If you need a place to cool off, the City of Atlanta posts cooling center openings and guidance, and you can call 311 for the latest locations. For background on the weather pattern and practical tips, see our earlier breakdown of the steamy setup.
We will update this post if alerts are expanded or upgraded. Until then, treat the heat like a real hazard, not just a summer nuisance, and plan your day around it.
