
A 20-year-old Jacksonville man is being held without bond after police say he led officers on a high-speed chase that hit 100 miles per hour, then tried to ditch trouble by running into a home. The pursuit unfolded Saturday, June 13, near Gum Branch Road and Onsville Drive in Jacksonville.
According to arrest records, Johnson Ly, 20, of Jacksonville, was arrested Saturday, June 13, by the Jacksonville Police Department. He faces charges of felony flee to elude with a motor vehicle, failure to heed a light or siren, reckless driving to endanger, resisting a public officer, speeding, expired registration and expired or no vehicle inspection. Charging documents state the chase ended when Ly ran into a house and tried to avoid arrest. He was taken to the Onslow County Detention Center and is being held without bond, with court paperwork listing a scheduled appearance in Onslow County court on Monday, June 15, as reported by WCTI.
How the pursuit unfolded
Charging documents say the incident began when an officer tried to pull Ly over at Gum Branch Road and Onsville Drive and he did not stop. Investigators allege he "reached speeds between 70 and 100 miles per hour" while driving through 35 and 45 mile per hour zones, according to WCTI.
How police say it ended
After the pursuit wrapped up, authorities say Ly ran into a house, opened the door and then tried to deny he had been behind the wheel before officers took him into custody. Police have not released any further information about possible damage to the home or any injuries.
