Kinston police are asking residents to keep an eye out for a 21-year-old woman they say is tied to a recent shots-fired scare in the LaGrange area. Investigators have identified the suspect as Da'naiyah Kayiomna Sa'quora Coley and say the case remains active as officers work to track her down.
In a Facebook post, the Kinston Police Department said Coley is wanted on two counts of assault by pointing a gun. Victims told officers a woman rode past their home while pointing a firearm, and then shots were heard in the area. Police say they are treating the situation seriously and are warning the public to steer clear.
"Do not approach the suspect," the department wrote, asking anyone with information to contact officers instead of trying to intervene themselves.
Allegations And The Law
According to police, the charges grew out of a shots-fired investigation where witnesses reported that someone matching Coley's description pointed a gun toward their residence shortly before gunfire was heard. Officers say they are still piecing together what happened but have already taken out warrants tied to the reported gun threat.
Assault by pointing a gun is a crime in North Carolina. The statute, Justia notes, makes it illegal to point a firearm at another person, whether that weapon is loaded or not.
How To Submit Tips
Anyone who knows where Coley is, or who has information that could help the investigation, is asked to call the KPD tips line at 252-939-4020 or contact Kinston-Lenoir County Crime Stoppers at 252-523-4444.
Tips can also be sent in online through the department’s City of Kinston reporting portal. The city notes that tips may be submitted anonymously and that callers could be eligible for rewards if their information leads to an arrest.
Recent Gun Calls In Lenoir County
The wanted alert comes on the heels of a string of gun-related calls in Lenoir County this month. Local reporting shows Kinston police and the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office have been called out to several shots-fired incidents and a domestic disturbance in LaGrange in recent days. Neuse News has published police accounts detailing those responses and related arrests.
For now, Kinston police are keeping their message simple: if you recognize Coley or spot her, call the tips line and do not confront her. The department says more information will be released as the investigation moves forward.
