Lake City police say they are on the hunt for a man wanted on an attempted murder warrant after a late Sunday shooting in the rear parking lot of Gleason Plaza. Officers arrived to find an adult man with a gunshot wound to the leg; the victim had put together a makeshift tourniquet and was rushed to the hospital as a trauma alert. According to authorities, the suspected shooter has not yet been found.
Suspect named; warrant issued
According to News4JAX, officers were called around 11:15 p.m. Sunday to 209 NW Hutton Drive. During a recorded interview the next day, the victim identified the alleged gunman as 42-year-old Johnathan Mahorian.
An arrest warrant for attempted murder has been issued, and detectives have used emergency cellular location data while checking areas where Mahorian was believed to be. Police described him as bald with brown eyes, about 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, and listed him as homeless. He was born Aug. 18, 1975, according to the department.
Police urge caution
Chief Gerald Butler urged the public not to take any chances if they spot Mahorian and instead to call 911 immediately. "Violent acts like this have no place in our community," Butler said. "Our detectives have worked tirelessly to identify and locate the suspect, and we are committed to bringing him into custody," he added, per News4JAX.
