After more than three decades of ribs, pulled pork and fried catfish, Boss Hog BBQ on N.C. 150 in Sherrills Ford is getting ready to turn off the smokers for good. The family-run Lake Norman staple has announced it will close on July 4, giving loyal customers a little runway to come in, swap stories and say goodbye. The restaurant sits on a multi-acre property that has been listed online and is now being actively marketed for sale.
In a Facebook post shared Saturday, the owners thanked regulars, writing, “Thank you for your continued support of Boss Hog BBQ over the years,” and adding that they “cannot leave here knowing we haven’t said our goodbyes,” according to The Charlotte Observer. That post set July 4 as the restaurant’s final day. The outlet also reports that an online listing shows roughly 7.5 acres surrounding the building and that a local brokerage has confirmed the site is under contract.
A Local Staple For Lake Norman Diners
Boss Hog built a loyal following with plates of ribs, pulled pork and fried catfish, typically piled up with hush puppies, slaw and mac and cheese. The no-frills spot has been a familiar stop for Lake Norman diners for decades. Local listings place the address at 7564 N.C. 150, and years of reviews point to steady regional praise for both the food and the down-to-earth service, as noted by LKNConnect.
Why The Land Matters
The roughly 7.5-acre footprint and corner location on busy N.C. 150 make the site especially appealing to developers as Lake Norman’s suburbs keep stretching outward. Nearby broker and listing pages highlight projects such as the 65-acre Terrell Town Center and other parcels moving through the market, which helps explain why the land is drawing attention from buyers and brokers, according to Realmo.
The restaurant did not respond to CharlotteFive’s request for information about what comes next by the time of publication, per The Charlotte Observer. For now, the owners are focused on thanking customers for their loyalty as they prepare to close, leaving a long list of regulars with one last weekend to stop by.
