Next Wednesday, Lake Union is set to swap its usual sunset calm for a floating dance floor as Lake Union Concerts launches its 2026 summer season. The organizer is reviving the viral paddle raves that packed the lake last year and rolling out a new “Dock Rock” series staged from Seattle’s floating homes. Expect DJs, bands and a sea of paddleboards across multiple evening shows through the summer.
According to Lake Union Concerts, the season opener is scheduled for next Wednesday from 5–8 p.m. and will feature a tech-house lineup that includes Sean Swan, Can’t Sleep and Kyle Grant. The group’s calendar also lists Dock Rock dates in July and August, plus additional morning and evening dance sets later in the season.
Dock Rock Brings Floating Homes Into The Mix
The new Dock Rock series stages live indie and rock shows off a docked floating home, giving paddlers a chance to bob right up to the performance and putting a spotlight on Seattle’s houseboat community, according to Discover South Lake Union. Organizers say the format is designed to keep shows intimate while celebrating lake culture and neighborhood musicians.
Organizers, Growth And The Return
Organizers and local coverage say last summer’s paddle raves grew fast and drew massive crowds, a surge founder Erik Hillisheim acknowledged in an interview with ARC Seattle as the series becomes more formal. KOMO reported Hillisheim’s comments, while early profiles of the grassroots event track the raves from small meetups to ticketed, permitted nights on the lake, per Secret Seattle.
Safety, Permits And What To Expect On The Water
Seattle Police’s Harbor Unit has warned that large paddle-up gatherings can drift into navigation lanes, and officers have urged paddlers to wear life vests and “mind the zone” to keep travel paths clear. FOX 13 Seattle covered the Harbor Unit’s safety concerns and noted that Hillisheim obtained permits and liability coverage as the events scaled up. The Lake Union Concerts FAQ lists safety guidance and free reservation details for each show, and organizers ask paddlers to register so staff can better manage crowding and water traffic.
Between waterfront sunsets, DJs and houseboat stages, the series is shaping up to be one of the more unusual local music offerings this summer. Keep an eye on the event pages for lineup updates along with any weather or safety advisories as show nights approach.
