The Gauchos Brazilian Steakhouse is lining up to take over the former On The Border spot at 6536 Northwest Loop 820 in Lake Worth, where “Coming Soon” signs are now posted on the front of the building. The roughly 6,000-square-foot restaurant shell sits along the Loop 820 corridor and has been empty since the Tex-Mex chain shut down at that location. For now, there is still no public menu or announced opening date for the new concept.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reporter Ella Gonzales spotted the new signage and highlighted local Facebook posts that show the storefront messaging. The Star-Telegram reports that The Gauchos appears to be an original, independent venture rather than part of any existing national chain.
Former Tenant And Recent Closures
OTB Hospitality, the parent company of On The Border, closed its company-owned restaurants after service on June 12, 2026, a move covered by Nation's Restaurant News. The brand had previously been sold out of bankruptcy to Pappas Restaurants in May 2025, according to a PR Newswire release announcing the acquisition.
What A Brazilian Steakhouse Brings To The Table
A churrascaria, or Brazilian steakhouse, typically uses rodízio service in which gauchos walk the dining room with skewered meats roasted over an open flame and carve portions directly at the table, per Texas de Brazil. Cost guides place a full rodízio experience in the midrange to upscale category, generally around $40 to $75 per person before tax and tip, depending on the market, according to Leblon Churrascaria.
What We Know About The Gauchos In Lake Worth
Commercial real estate listings show the former On The Border space at 6536 NW Loop 820 as approximately 5,929 square feet, which lines up with the nearly 6,000-square-foot figure cited in local coverage, per LoopNet. Beyond the “Coming Soon” signage, the Star-Telegram notes there are still no public details about the menu, ownership or any target date for opening, so the timing of a soft launch or grand opening is unknown.
If The Gauchos does open in the Lake Worth location, it would add to a small but growing lineup of churrascarias in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and tweak the dining mix along the Loop 820 corridor. We will keep an eye on permit filings, statements from ownership and social media updates and will provide further coverage as more information becomes available.
