Bold City Brewery is calling last round at its Downtown Jacksonville taproom. The microbrewery at 109 E. Bay St. will pour its final pints there on June 27, with the company planning to move its brewing equipment back to its Rosselle Street production facility. For now, Bold City's Rosselle production taproom will keep brewing and serving the brand's core beers in Jacksonville.

As reported by Jacksonville Daily Record, the Bold City Downtown Facebook account told fans the lease at 109 E. Bay St. is ending and that June 27 will be the location's last day. The post added, "The good news: Bold City isn’t going anywhere. We’ll be relocating our brewing equipment to our production facility and will continue brewing the beers you know and love," according to the paper.

Bold City lists its production facility and taproom at 2670 Rosselle Street #7 on its official site, which will be the main base for brewing after the downtown closure. The Rosselle location also hosts events and features a full tap list, per the brewery's website.

Downtown roots and city incentives

The Downtown outpost grew out of a 2016 expansion plan that included a $28,000 forgivable loan to help with the buildout. That program required recipients to operate in the space for five years, according to reporting by WJCT and Downtown Investment Authority materials. Flagged Bold City Downtown's 2017 small-batch debut, noting the taproom was designed to showcase experimental beers and bring the brand into the urban core.

LaVilla project and a potential new home

The idea of a new Bold City microbrewery in LaVilla is tied to a proposed Daily's mixed-use development on a 1.4-acre block at Bay and Broad streets. The Downtown Development Review Board signed off on that concept in 2023, and the developer sought extensions afterward, according to reporting by Jacksonville Today. The project has continued to move through city permitting in recent years, leaving any timeline for a new downtown location unclear.

What this means for downtown

Bold City's move trims the number of small taprooms in the central business district at a time when other downtown venues have shifted or closed. Earlier this year, News4Jax covered the planned closure of Intuition Ale Works after owner Ben Davis said a buyer could not be found, highlighting turnover in the riverfront entertainment mix. For now, Bold City's Rosselle production taproom and its distribution channels will carry the brand forward, according to the company's site.
