A man was shot to death early Thursday in Fordham Heights, turning a quiet stretch of the Grand Concourse into an active crime scene before dawn, police said.
Officers responded to a report of gunfire shortly after 2:30 a.m. and found the victim near 2150 Grand Concourse. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition and later died, according to News 12 New York. The outlet reports the man had gunshot wounds to his chest and groin.
Detectives remained on the block through the morning as the investigation continued.
Grand Concourse corridor under scrutiny
The killing adds to a troubling run of gun violence along the Grand Concourse this spring. In late May, late-night Grand Concourse gunfire left three people wounded, and borough-level data cited in that report showed the Bronx has seen an uptick in shooting incidents even as citywide figures have dipped. Local outlets and public datasets have been tracking clusters of shootings along the busy corridor in recent months.
How to report tips
Detectives are asking anyone with information or video from the scene to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1-800-577-TIPS or through the department's online tip portal, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers. The program also offers additional online options for anonymous submissions.
As of Thursday morning there were no arrests, and detectives were still canvassing the block and reviewing surveillance footage, News 12 New York reports.
