MTA police are still searching for a rider who allegedly assaulted a bus operator in downtown Baltimore late last winter. The attack happened around 10 p.m. on Jan. 30 aboard a CityLink Silver bus near 1 West Lombard Street in the Downtown West neighborhood. Investigators have released images of the person they want to identify and are urging anyone with information to speak up.
Photos Released, Police Ask For Tips
According to FOX45, Maryland Transit Administration Police say the suspect got off the CityLink Silver bus at the same location where the alleged assault occurred. Officers have circulated still images from surveillance footage to help put a name to the face, and those photos are being pushed out through local media to widen the net. So far, no arrests or charges have been publicly announced.
How To Report Tips
Anyone who recognizes the person in the photos or has information about the incident can contact MTA Police. The agency lists its transit police contact page and tip line on its website. Per the Maryland Transit Administration, the MTA Police tip line is 410-454-7720 and is available for reporting incidents on buses and rail.
Assaults on Transit Workers Remain an Ongoing Problem
Assaults on bus and rail operators keep showing up in MDOT and legislative reports, which document numerous incidents in recent years and underscore the risks facing transit workers. Lawmakers made assaulting a public transit operator a felony in 2022 and have continued to push for stronger reporting and protections, according to the Maryland General Assembly and an MDOT report to the legislature.
Recent Similar Attacks Downtown
The Jan. 30 case tracks with other downtown incidents reported earlier this spring. MDOT MTA Police previously asked for the public’s help identifying a suspect in an April 1 assault on a CityLink NAVY bus, a story covered by WBAL and later summarized in a downtown bus assault recap. Officials say cases like these highlight how difficult it can be to police crowded downtown routes during busy hours.
MTA Police have not said whether charges are pending in the Jan. 30 incident. Anyone who recognizes the person in the released images or who witnessed what happened is asked to call Officer Treyone Johnson at 410-454-7720, FOX45 reports. Investigators say even small details can help, and every tip will be reviewed by MDOT MTA detectives.
