A 15-year-old girl was shot early Sunday near downtown Minneapolis and is expected to survive, police said. Officers arrested two boys, ages 14 and 15, in connection with the shooting near the intersection of Hennepin Avenue and Laurel Avenue in the Loring Park neighborhood, and investigators are still working to figure out what led to the gunfire.
Gunfire Near Loring Park
Minneapolis police say officers were called just before 1:30 a.m. to reports of shots fired and found the wounded teenager at Hennepin and Laurel. She was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to KSTP. Officers soon located a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old nearby, detained them, and booked both into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center, the station reported.
One of Three Overnight Shootings
The Loring Park shooting was one of three separate incidents across Minneapolis early Sunday that unfolded within roughly 45 minutes, including a fatal shooting on Bloomington Avenue and another person wounded on the 2500 block of 4th Street Northeast. Police say they recovered a firearm at the Hennepin and Laurel scene and are working to determine what led up to the incidents, as reported by FOX 9.
Teens in Custody, Questions Unanswered
According to KSTP, the two boys were identified based on suspect descriptions and remain in juvenile custody while detectives gather evidence and interview witnesses. Authorities have not released the teens' names or outlined potential charges while the investigation is active.
Late-Night Gunfire Pattern
The shooting adds to a recent string of late-night gunfire incidents around the city that reporters have been tracking and that has prompted calls for faster evidence collection and tighter hospital coordination. A recent three-shot spree highlighted those concerns.
Anyone with information about the Hennepin and Laurel shooting is urged to contact Minneapolis police or CrimeStoppers as investigators continue their work, as reported by FOX 9. Authorities say more details will be released as the case develops.
