Aria Wine Bar, a new Little Italy hangout from sommelier Sarah Halko, is on track for a mid-July debut in the La Collina retail strip in Cleveland. Halko says her goal is to strip the fuss out of wine service and create a compact, neighborhood-friendly bar built around a tightly edited list and unfussy, wine-focused snacks. Renovation crews are at work in a storefront that has hosted other beverage concepts in recent years, and the opening plan includes tastings, pop-ups and regular educational programming once the doors swing open.

Halko is mapping out a mostly Italian wine list paired with small shareable bites such as meat-and-cheese boards and peppers in oil, and she is teaming up with an importer to bring lesser-seen varietals into Cleveland. She has described Aria as the kind of place where you stop for a glass before dinner or settle in for a casual night out rather than a full restaurant meal, according to Cleveland Scene.

Owner background and approach

As reported by Cleveland Magazine, Halko is a level-two sommelier who has completed Wine & Spirit Education Trust levels 1 and 2, bringing both service experience and teaching skills to the project. The outlet notes that she grew up in Youngstown, attended Kent State, and went on to work in both hospitality and education, including time as a high-school English teacher. Halko has been clear that she does not want wine to feel intimidating, saying, "I tell everyone in the neighborhood that I'll happily be your waiting room."

The space and events calendar

Aria is slated to include a wine bar, a patio, and two event spaces, and Halko plans to use the footprint for tastings, pop-ups, educational classes, and private gatherings, according to Cleveland.com. The build-out refreshes a storefront that briefly housed 3Roses Winery in 2024 and is intended to help keep the neighborhood strip lively throughout the week. If everything falls into place with permits and inspections, Halko hopes to welcome guests in mid-July.

Aria's arrival will add another beverage-focused option to Little Italy's restaurant corridor, emphasizing approachable service and community programming rather than a formal tasting-room atmosphere. A firm opening date will be announced once renovations are finished and inspections are complete.
