A Memphis man who got out of jail on a $1,000 bond in March is back behind bars, now accused of a brutal home attack that left a woman injured and has him locked up without bond, according to court records.
Court documents and police reports say Jamal Williams, booked into the Shelby County Jail, was arrested on May 26 on charges that included aggravated burglary, domestic assault, and child endangerment in a case involving his cousin and her 12-year-old son. After the most recent alleged attack, prosecutors filed a new slate of charges: aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, vandalism, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and violation of domestic-violence bail conditions. Records show Williams is currently being held without bond and is due in court on Wednesday, as reported by WREG.
What police allege
Investigators say Williams forced his way into the woman’s home, dragged her by the hair, pistol-whipped her and kicked her multiple times. Police reports state that, earlier, the same woman had locked herself in a bathroom, only for Williams to kick the door in and hit her.
Officers also say Williams had a chilling message when they arrived, allegedly telling them, “It ain’t over till it’s over! This is my program,” according to WREG.
Court timeline and bail conditions
Court filings show Williams was released on a $1,000 bond on March 24, and that Judge Reed issued an active order at the time imposing domestic-violence bail conditions. Prosecutors now argue those conditions were violated and have moved to keep him in custody without bond as the case moves forward.
What’s next
Williams remains in the Shelby County Jail and is scheduled for a court appearance on Wednesday, when a judge is expected to review the charges and his pretrial detention status. Future court records and filings in Shelby County will show whether prosecutors add more charges or push for extended detention as the investigation continues.
