Early Tuesday morning, a Memphis man identified by police as a key suspect in the disappearance of Huntsville realtor Ronald Dumas Jr. was arrested in Michigan and booked into a county jail, according to authorities and a family spokesperson. Toure McLaurin was taken into custody at about 5:30 a.m. and appears on booking records as processed around 10:30 a.m., the family spokesman and law-enforcement sources said. The arrest is the latest turn in a case that was upgraded to an abduction investigation after Dumas was last seen leaving a Huntsville liquor store on Dec. 15, 2024.
Arrest in Michigan
According to WREG, McLaurin was taken into custody in Ingham County and booked into the county correctional facility. Family spokesman Troy Styles told reporters the arrest happened around 5:30 a.m., with booking records showing McLaurin was processed later that morning. WREG reported that it was not immediately clear whether Michigan authorities will move to extradite him to Madison County to face Alabama charges.
How the case unfolded
The Huntsville Police Department has said that evidence developed during its probe led investigators to treat Dumas' disappearance as an abduction and to seek arrest warrants for five people connected to the case. Per the Huntsville Police Department, the warrants named several suspects, including McLaurin. Two alleged co-suspects, Quintarius White and Kierra Clark, were taken into custody earlier in coordinated operations, reporting shows. Action News 5 reviewed HPD statements on those earlier arrests and the broader multiagency search.
Charges and extradition
Coverage of Tuesday's arrest notes that McLaurin is the subject of a first-degree kidnapping warrant tied to the Dumas investigation, and officials say the case will be handled by Madison County prosecutors if he is brought back to Alabama. WREG reported that it remains unclear whether Ingham County will approve extradition, and that local and federal partners would coordinate next steps if Alabama seeks his transfer. Prosecutors will ultimately decide where charges are formally filed and whether McLaurin appears in Madison County court for initial proceedings.
Family response and reward
Dumas' family has worked aggressively to keep the case in the public eye, buying billboard space and raising a reward to encourage tips, local outlets reported last year. WAFF noted that the family increased its privately funded reward and launched a billboard campaign across Memphis and northern Mississippi as investigators continued to ask the public for help. The family's outreach has been central to keeping tips flowing while investigators work across state lines.
How to help
Anyone with information about Ronald Dumas' disappearance or the whereabouts of outstanding suspects is asked to contact the Huntsville Police Department. Per HPD's public notice, tips can be directed to Investigator Brady at 256-746-4135 or submitted anonymously through Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers at 53-CRIME. Law enforcement officials say community tips remain a critical part of the ongoing, multi-jurisdictional investigation.
