Monstropolis is finally materializing at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Bay Lake, Florida, and for once, the monsters are the ones inviting humans in. Early images and park commentary show a laughter-powered cityscape coming together, complete with monster-sized storefronts, a flagship restaurant, and a high-flying attraction that riffs on the movie's famous doors sequence. For Orlando visitors, the reveal answers the long-running question of what will fill the old Muppets corner of the park as Disney leans harder into fully immersive, story-first neighborhoods.
Walt Disney World pulled back the curtain on June 4 in a feature titled "Discovering Monstropolis." According to the Disney Parks Blog, the land is set after the original Monsters, Inc. film and revolves around an in-world celebration called H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for "Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice." The blog frames Monstropolis as a living city where monsters and humans can finally meet on friendlier terms instead of through closet doors at 3 a.m.
H.U.M.A.N. Day Hits The Streets Of Monstropolis
Guests will be able to roam monster-lined streets, grab a bite at the movie's Harryhausen's restaurant, and catch shows at the Glob Theater, as reported by ClickOrlando. The coverage notes that the land is presented as a city built on Monsters, Inc.'s realization that laughter is a better energy source than screams, and that Imagineering is leaning hard into tactile, character-driven details to sell both the size and the scale of the place.
The Door Coaster: Disney's First Suspended Roller Coaster
The headliner of the new land is a suspended "door" roller coaster that will send riders racing through a building-scale door vault. Disney says it will be the company's first suspended coaster in any of its parks. At D23 2024, Disney Experiences chairman Josh D'Amaro teased the concept, saying, "You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park," a line covered after the presentation by WDW News Today. Imagineering has shared models and concept art hinting at a vertical lift and indoor door-vault sequences meant to drop guests straight into the movie's wild chase scene.
Construction Heats Up As Old Muppets Area Comes Down
Aerial photos and construction updates show cranes and steel rising where the new show building and coaster will sit, with early footers and conduit work already visible. New imagery published by WDWMagic documents the foundations and the first support work for the ride. Outlets tracking the project note that the expansion has required retheming and demolition in the former Muppets Courtyard after the park closed Muppet*Vision 3D and nearby venues last year to free up space for Monstropolis, per Disney Tourist Blog.
So When Do Humans Get In On H.U.M.A.N. Day?
Disney has not announced an opening date, and there is still no firm timetable for H.U.M.A.N. Day or the coaster's debut, as noted by ClickOrlando. With heavy construction still underway, industry watchers expect Disney to keep trickling out more details and glossy new visuals as the skyline of Monstropolis continues to rise.
For Orlando locals and repeat visitors, Monstropolis is another sign of Hollywood Studios' shift toward large, walk‑through.
