Thursday night at the Capital Crossing shopping center on Capital Boulevard in northeast Raleigh ended with flashing blue lights instead of late-night errands, after one person was shot and taken to a hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries. Officers roped off part of the center as detectives worked the scene, and the shooting briefly disrupted evening business at nearby stores and restaurants.
According to WRAL, Raleigh police responded after reports of gunfire and confirmed that one person had been shot and transported to a local hospital. As of Thursday night, police had not said whether a suspect was in custody while detectives continued their investigation.
Police: No active threat to the public
“There is no active threat to the public,” Raleigh police told WRAL. Officers kept the area around the shopping center secured while detectives canvassed for witnesses, reviewed surveillance cameras, and collected evidence. Investigators are asking anyone with information or video from the scene to contact the department.
Where this fits in Raleigh's recent numbers
Raleigh Police Department data show 17 non-fatal shooting incidents in the first quarter of 2026, down slightly from 19 in the same period last year. The department published those figures in its first-quarter crime summary, available from the Raleigh Police Department.
Nearby incidents have stoked concern
The Capital Boulevard corridor has seen other high-profile trouble this spring, including a mid-April shooting at Triangle Town Center that wounded three people and briefly shuttered the mall, according to Spectrum News. Since that incident, residents and merchants say they have been watching police activity along the busy retail stretch more closely.
Anyone who witnessed Thursday's shooting or has video from the area is asked to contact Raleigh police. Authorities are also pointing tipsters to Raleigh CrimeStoppers for anonymous reporting and potential rewards; details on how to submit a tip are available through Raleigh CrimeStoppers, city officials note.
