A roadside confrontation on Norfolk Boulevard Tuesday evening ended in gunfire when a man in his 20s was shot multiple times after allegedly pointing a rifle at a driver, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The wounded man managed to drive himself to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Investigators said the suspected shooter left the scene, then called police before officers arrived.
How Investigators Say It Unfolded
Officers were called to Norfolk Boulevard around 5:30 p.m. after reports of a shooting. Detectives said the suspected shooter was parked along the road, sitting inside his car, when another man walked up and asked him to leave the area.
According to News4JAX, the driver initially agreed and moved to leave. But when the same man approached again, this time pointing a rifle at the vehicle, the shooter opened fire several times, hitting him. Detectives said the shooter then drove away and later phoned police to report what had happened.
Investigators told the outlet they believe the incident was isolated and said there was no ongoing threat to the broader community, even as they continued to piece together the full sequence of events.
Recent Violence Along Norfolk Boulevard
The gunfire was the second shooting on Norfolk Boulevard in less than a week, adding to concerns about violence along the stretch. Days earlier, a large pop-up party in the 9000 block of Norfolk Boulevard turned chaotic when four people were shot and taken to hospitals.
That earlier case was also treated as an isolated incident, according to Action News Jax. Taken together, the back-to-back episodes have put an uncomfortable spotlight on the corridor, even as police insist there is no broader pattern posing an ongoing danger to residents.

JSO has repeatedly emphasized that it believes the shooting was an isolated encounter. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses as they try to sort out exactly how a dispute on a neighborhood street escalated into yet another round of gunfire.
